Korda Kaizen Platinum
If you don't want to fish over long distances and the action of the rod is important to you, then the Kaizen Platinum in 12ft & 3lb test curve is the best model for you. It is still capable of casting a rig well over 100 metres if necessary, but as it is the softest rod in the range, it allows for the most accurate casts at shorter distances. The rod still has plenty of low-to-mid-range power when it comes to controlling very large fish or performing well when hook and hold fishing. Its slightly more forgiving action means you can pack on the pressure when needed without fear of slashing the hook. Recommended casting weight: 1-3oz.
The Kaizen rod series was developed over four years and came about when Korda felt they could create high-end rods that were even better than those already on the market. Although this is a first for Korda, they have drawn on the extensive knowledge and experience of their Team Korda anglers and product developers to produce an exceptional range of rods.
Danny Fairbrass has a long association with rods that bear his name and in the development of which he has been involved. It was an obvious step for Korda to develop a rod series themselves that has all the features he and his team expect from a high-end rod. The aim was to develop a range of premium rods that would cover pretty much every carp fishing situation at home or abroad. Korda wanted to develop rods that would allow you to have fun fighting fish and still cast long distances.
All high-end Kaizen rods are built on a fast-taper profile – this means that the rod tapers consistently from the handle to the tip. This results in rods with a great tip action. Of course, the rod will still flex to a degree under extreme loads, such as when casting. This type of action allows for better power transfer and ensures very fast tip speeds, which in turn enables longer casts.
The action allows the line to be lifted quickly from the bottom, and although most of the deflection is at the tip, the power is transferred progressively enough for the rod to absorb the shocks of a large fish at close range without fear of the hook being pulled out. Hooking a carp with the Kaizen rods is an experience!
The blank of these rods is not the only factor that determines the action and characteristics they exhibit. Equally important is the type of carbon used in the manufacturing process, and for the Kaizen rods, only the best and highest quality Japanese carbon we could get our hands on was used! This ZERO90 carbon is used in just two layers and with a very low resin content, resulting in lighter and stiffer blanks. This not only allows more power to be transferred during the cast, but also improves accuracy, as the blank is less likely to twist and the lead flies much straighter when cast.
