Kickers may just be a bent piece of rubber, but often the simplest things in fishing have the greatest effect, and these help to improve the hooking potential of a variety of different rigs.
The curved hookset was incredibly effective at finding purchase in the fish's mouth, but also caused a lot of damage, so for years anglers have used pieces of heat-shrunk tubing to replicate the effect.
With Kickers, all of this is no longer a problem, as they achieve the same effect by simply sliding them over the hook eye, without the need for any evaporation. They are also perfect for use with spinner rigs.
Some anglers like to camouflage their rig as much as possible, and the green or brown version is perfect for this, but in some places a bright piece of tubing on the hook can increase the chances of it being picked up.
There are also mixed red/white and yellow/pink versions if you want to add a splash of colour to your hook.
The kickers are made from tough rubber and come in three different sizes to match the hooks used – small for sizes 10 and 12, medium for sizes 6 and 8 and large for sizes 2 and 4 – so they fit tightly over the eye.
When you have a fish on the hook, the kicker straightens during the fight, but then returns to its original shape, ready to be used again. You get ten kickers in each pack.
