The VR 5 is a smaller multi-reel that has been used in saltwater fishing for several years. It is manufactured in the same factory as the HR 20, and its features make it ideal for vertical fishing for catfish. The ability to easily let out the line using the sliding drag is a huge advantage over fixed-spool reels. Furthermore, even during numerous fights, the line does not twist when the fish pull line through the drag. Especially with thinner lines, such as those typically used for vertical fishing, twisting can significantly weaken the line’s breaking strength, bringing it into a critical range. Unlike larger multi-reels, this reel’s compact design allows it to be easily gripped by hand, preventing it from tipping over while guiding the lure. The VR 5’s body is made entirely of CNC-machined aluminum. This VR 5 version is the model that is significantly more popular in German-speaking countries. Right-handed anglers usually prefer to reel in with their left hand. Since the handle is on the left side of this VR 5, such multi-reels are also referred to internationally as left-hand models. But please don’t be confused: Left-hand models are essentially left-hand handle models and are therefore suitable for right-handers. We recommend filling the reel to no more than 80% capacity. This way, you won’t have to re-spool your line at all when vertical fishing.
