The Baitrunner OC offers a superb combination of value and performance. Originally developed for the American saltwater market, this robust baitrunner is also an excellent freshwater reel for anglers who need extra power. Don’t be misled by the ‘OC’ (Oceanic) suffix on this robust baitrunner. Although originally designed for saltwater bait fishing, it is also excellent as a freshwater reel for catfish, pike and carp. With its low price and robust build quality, you really can’t go wrong with this tried-and-tested model. The attractive combination of a black body and silver spool is understated and suitable for most ‘specimen’ situations where a free-spool system is required.
Made from Shimano’s XT-7 composite material, the reel is lighter than expected and features Shielded A-RB bearings, which are corrosion-resistant in saltwater and therefore work perfectly in freshwater too. The AR-C spool, with its unique angled spool lip, works with Varispeed, Shimano’s variable oscillation system, which enables excellent line lay with both monofilament and braided lines. All model sizes feature a gear ratio of 4.8:1, which ensures high cranking power, and the powerful front drag can handle anything you might hook in both freshwater and saltwater.

- Carbon fiber rods conduct electricity. Do not use them during thunderstorms or near power lines.
- Never try to pull lures or leaders out of trees or bushes by applying pressure to the rod and fishing line. This can result in the bait/lead being catapulted towards the angler. Use only your hands to free the bait/lead.
- Train beginners: Instruct children and beginners in the safe handling of rods and hooks to minimize risks.
- Safety distance: Always keep a distance of at least six meters from high-voltage power lines when carrying or using fishing rods.
- Avoid high sticking: Do not bend your rod too much while you are drilling a fish, which is known as “high sticking. Hold the rod at a maximum loading angle of 45 to 60 degrees to avoid breakage.
- Aligning the rod for snags: If your lure snags, keep the rod pointed at the hook while walking backwards to reduce the strain on the rod.
