The water column indicates how waterproof a tent material is. A value of 10,000 mm means that the material can withstand the pressure of a 10-metre-high water column before moisture penetrates. This corresponds to a very high level of protection against rain and moisture – even during prolonged heavy rain, the interior of the tent remains dry.
